Moving from Punitive to Restorative behaviour management

Hosted By: Woodlands Primary School & Nursery
Date: Wednesday 7 January 2026
Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Online Webinar

As new leaders in a large Primary school, often supporting dysregulated children, we understood that it was critical that education professionals understood the effects of attachment and early trauma. It was also essential they understood, that even supportive and positive behavioural strategies, such as modified timetables, communication fans, reward charts, changes to groupings or seating arrangements, regulation stations and the use of feedback or reward – DO NOT work in the long term, with a dysregulated child. Punitive approaches and traditional sanctions will almost certainly fail -as there is nothing that can be done to the child, that can compare with the discomfort/anger/apathy that they are already feeling. This session will focus on how the current behaviour policy and pedagogical approaches, at Woodlands Primary school and Nursery, have been developed and refined, leading to improved attendance, fewer exclusions and fewer occurrences of severe dysregulation.
