There is certainly a lot of activity across the ‘system’ around the engagement of our young people. One of the privileges of the role as Chair of ARC is having an active involvement in a number of events and gatherings. I was delighted to represent ARC members at the Association of School & College Leaders conference for Pastoral Leadership as part of their panel. This allowed the opportunity to raise awareness around moving from the use of deficit (eg catch-up, gaps) to more positive (eg accelerate, enhance) language, raising the currency of the Arts and Sport through the development of a cultural entitlement for ALL children and young people, and emphasising the power and impact in a belief and positive aspirations for each individual, despite the challenges they bring.
This was replicated in a roundtable event, organised by the Centre For Young Lives and chaired by Anne Longfield OBE. The focus of this event was around ‘Inclusion’ and again consistently raised the strong need for all children and young people to have a positive sense of belonging.
The London VRU team are developing Trauma Informed Champions to create a sustainable system across the region. ARC are actively supporting this work through two Trustees (Dee Dee Roberts and Any Wright) as the offer continues to develop and grow.
I am delighted that the ARC Board of Trustees has been strengthened by new additions. I would like to formally welcome Matthew Cooke, Yvonne Crilley and Maxine O’Neill to the board. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise around system leadership to the charity.
The coming weeks sees the start of a number of events where ARC are heavily involved including a number of conference – NAVSH, ASCL, NAHT, Swindon and Wolverhampton. I would ask all members to link with us if they would like ARC to support any events they have, or are currently organising.
