At Donnington Wood Church of England Junior School, we believe that every child deserves a nurturing and supportive environment to thrive, both academically and emotionally. Our journey to becoming an attachment and trauma-aware school has been grounded in our core values of hope, friendship, and perseverance. Recognizing the impact that trauma and attachment difficulties can have on a child’s learning and well-being, we embarked on this journey by committing to whole-school training. Every member of our staff has actively engaged in trauma-informed practices, learning how to create classrooms that are sensitive to the needs of every child. This training has empowered us to better understand the underlying causes of certain behaviours, helping us to respond with compassion and patience. The difference is profound: children who previously struggled to engage are now feeling more secure, and our learning environment has become more harmonious and supportive.
We are proud that this work has been recognized in our recent SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) inspection, where the report noted that we have created a "safe haven" for our most vulnerable pupils. This reflects our dedication to ensuring that every child feels valued, safe, and cared for at Donnington Wood.
