Manor Park Primary Academy – Leading the way in Relational Education

Manor Park Primary Academy is a three-form entry school committed to its mission of fostering Confident Children Enjoying Learning. As a member of the LEO Academy
Trust, the school is dedicated to delivering a child-centred and creative curriculum that promotes independence and ensures the safeguarding and well-being of all pupils.
The school's foundational vision is rooted in a profound and long-standing commitment to creating a truly trauma-informed environment, with relational approaches deeply
embedded across all school policy, provision, and daily practice. Manor Park's approach is the result of numerous cycles of rigorous assessment, planning, and continuous
review, ensuring it is highly responsive to the evolving needs of its diverse community, particularly its most vulnerable pupils.
To realise this vision, Manor Park has made substantial investments in professional development. All staff members have undergone comprehensive trauma and
attachment training, which has led to a consistent, whole-school relational approach. This focus is reinforced by a highly experienced Inclusion Leader and strong,
collaborative relationships with professional services.
The positive impact of this ethos is evident in measurable pupil outcomes, including:
● Improved academic performance and progress.
● Positive shifts in emotional well-being data, monitored through their innovative LEO Screeners.
● Improved and sustained attendance rates.
● Significantly reduced suspension and exclusion rates, demonstrating the effectiveness of their relational behaviour policy and trauma-informed sanctions.
Manor Park Primary Academy has developed several innovative solutions to meet the needs of pupils experiencing trauma or difficulties with self-regulation, including:
LEO Screeners: A structured system for identifying and addressing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across three tiers of support.
Sensory Regulation Spaces: Calm, safe spaces equipped with sensory tools (like weighted blankets and calming lights) to support self-regulation.
Therapeutic Practices: Implementation of regular mindfulness and relaxation techniques (such as yoga) for all children, Attachment-Based Approaches, Restorative
Practices, and access to on-site therapeutic interventions like drama therapists and counsellors, including Animal-Assisted Therapy with "Wellbeing woofers."
The school’s expertise in this field is nationally recognised. Manor Park Primary Academy has served as a Department for Education (DfE) Lead School for the Behaviour
Hub, where it has supported other schools across the country in developing relational behaviour policies and provisions for children with SEMH needs. Furthermore, the
school was awarded a Challenge Partners Area of Excellence for its assessment and identification of SEMH needs, highlighting its innovative practice as well as a GOLD
award as part of the Building Stronger Foundations Project in partnership with Sutton Virtual School.
Ofsted in June 2025 also recognised the school’s exemplary relational policy, provision and practice, resulting in all children feeling included, safe, supported and valued,
‘Pupils feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in their school. Their behaviour is exemplary. Children in the early years quickly learn the routines and high expectations
staff have of them. Across the school, pupils are happy and safe. Staff care diligently and deliberately for pupils both academically and emotionally, which pupils appreciate
greatly.’

‘Children in the early years are nurtured through caring relationships to develop self-confidence and curiosity. Older pupils show high levels of determination in their learning.
Pupils love coming to school and attend regularly.’

'Manor Park is a wonderful place to play and learn. Pupils thrive socially and academically within the school’s positive ethos that promotes high expectations and mutual
respect.’

Looking ahead, Manor Park's leadership is committed to extending its positive impact by continuing to share its expertise through outreach, including delivering workshops
at national conferences, and inspiring other educational settings to adopt its successful trauma-informed and relational model.
