It wasn't easy! Lessons Learned in Implementing Relational Approaches to Behaviour

The session will include a short tour of the school to highlight our therapeutic classrooms, followed by refreshments and opportunities for Q&A with the team. In this live event, we will share the steps we have taken to embed a relational approach to behaviour support at our school.

When we first started implementing changes to our approach to behaviour, things didn’t go as smoothly as we had hoped. From the initial excitement about starting training, we found ourselves faced with an increase in students’ regulation challenges. We questioned what needed more time, what needed changing, and whether we should step in to ‘fix’ things or hold on and trust the process.

Three years later, and now a detention-free school, we are ready to share what happened and why, what we learned along the way, and what we would have done differently with the benefit of hindsight.

We’ll also share some of the successes we have experienced, ranging from whole-school initiatives, including changes to language and processes, to individual case studies.
