Dulwich Hamlet Junior School

Dulwich Hamlet Junior School, part of the Charter Schools Educational Trust, is proud to berecognised as an Outstanding school by Ofsted (March 2023). Our journey has been defined by adeep commitment to trauma-informed and relational practice, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and valued. This ethos underpins all aspects of school life, shaping not only our approachto teaching and learning but also our relationships with families, staff, and the wider community. We are a highly inclusive school, with 22% of our pupils identified as having SEND needs and 29children supported through EHCPs. Meeting these needs is a priority, and we deploy resourcesgenerously to ensure access to specialist provision, including educational psychologists, speech andlanguage therapy and occupational therapy. Alongside this, our strong SEMH provision includes playtherapy, counselling, drawing and talking therapy, nurture groups, and participation in theRead2Dogs programme. Every child has access to a trusted adult, and vulnerable pupils benefit fromindividually assigned pastoral support, ensuring early identification and consistent intervention.Academically, we are proud of our exceptional KS2 results in 2025, which represent the strongestoutcomes since SATs resumed post-pandemic. For the first time, combined attainment for pupilpremium children exceeded national averages for all pupils, with particularly impressive writingoutcomes (86% vs 72% nationally). These results reflect not only the hard work of our pupils and staff but also the effectiveness of our inclusive, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. They are a testament to the resilience and determination of our school community. Our commitment to continuous improvement is evident in our engagement with the Attachment Research Community (ARC). In 2025, we were commended for our work and proudly achieved Gold Accreditation, recognising our dedication to embedding attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice. Our Pastoral Lead also shared expertise at the Trust’s annual conference, further demonstrating our role as leaders in relational practice. These achievements highlight our journey of growth and our determination to remain at the forefront of inclusive education. We continue to invest in enhanced provision, expanding nurture groups to Year 4 and Year 5, increasing access to counselling and SALT sessions, and creating safe, calming spaces such as regulation stations and sensory rooms. Our three-year School Development Plan ensures that our work on Relationships and Behaviour is at its core, continuing to embed restorative practice consistently across the school. Staff training ensures that every adult is equipped to support children with empathy, equity, and consistency, while parents are engaged through initiatives such as Parent Cafés on topics linked to mental health and wellbeing, and PSHE themes, and workshops with The Nest, Southwark. At Dulwich Hamlet Junior, we are proud of the culture we have built: one that values academic achievement alongside emotional wellbeing, resilience, and personal growth. Our curriculum is carefully designed to be inclusive and engaging, from RULER in Year 3 to gender equality programmes in Years 5 and 6, and additional enhanced PSHE sessions on healthy friendships, body image, and self-esteem. We are proud of our journey, proud of our children, and proud to be a school where every child is supported to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
